Farm animals

Ireland's large agri-food sector means that our veterinary nurses need to be able to care for production animals, as well as pets and athletes. They can also provide advice on everything from animal husbandry, hygiene and biosecurity to preventative health care programs, vaccine usage, parasite control and laboratory testing.

Large animal handling

Despite our rich agricultural heritage most Irish people now live in urban or suburban environments, with very limited "hands on" experience with animals other than pets (Dunne et al. 2017). Helping students to gain confidence and competence working with farm animals and horses is a really rewarding and important part of the job.
